BEAUTIFUL BLONDE SISTERS

I can't tell you how excited I was that we finally had a good weather weekend!!! I got to do a photoshoot with these two beautiful sisters in Georgetown and it was so much fun. Hazel and Ginger are the most hilarious girls. They make each other laugh constantly and totally feed off each other's energy. They are so lucky to have each other. : )

I was trying to get Ginger to smile when a group of like 10 runners ran between us and Ginger gave me this expression after they left, and omigosh, I LOVE IT! She is so cute!

KAMRIE HAS A LITTLE SIS!

I got to do a photoshoot with Kamrie's little sister, Brenna! I got to work with Kamrie since she was a little baby and was so excited to hear that she had a little sister coming because Kamrie is one of the most beautiful and fun little girls in the world. Brenna is so smiley and gorgeous. And when you see these girls' mom, Erin, you'll see where they get their good looks! Erin is such a happy and proud mom, and it just GLOWS from their shots together.

Kamrie moves SO FAST! And she has the most hilarious expressions!! You can tell even from these little pictures how blue her eyes are, they have always caught light like sponges and are so beautiful!

THREE BREATHTAKING BABY GIRLS

This was the most amazing experience for me to get to do a photoshoot of TRIPLETS!!! I felt like I won the lottery when I heard a friend of mine was pregnant with triplets (all girls). I immediately started sketching all the different poses I wanted to try with the girls after they were born.

They are all so beautiful and were amazing for me during the shoot. Probably because they have two of the most easy going and fun parents ever, who just laughed and smiled proudly at their three little ones the entire shoot. I just hope this family never moves away from me so I can watch these girls grow up and help document all their milestones. I'm really hoping I'll be there to photograph their triple wedding on 3/3/33. ; )

MULTIPLES MODEL SEARCH: This triplet session inspired me so much that I dying to get to work with TWINS. If you are pregnant with twins or know someone that is pregnant with twins please email me because I am offering a free newborn photo session to a mommy of multiples that contacts me. I'm looking for someone preferably close to me in NoVa. For a signed model release form you would receive a free in home session (when the babies are around 2 weeks old or younger, or two weeks home from the hospital or younger) and the digital negatives of the 10 best shots along with their print release. More negatives would be available for purchase if you so choose.

A LITTLE PAYBACK

Talk about pressure....a photoshoot with your graphic designer and his wife who happens to be your best friend from college?! (Shout out to Back Right Room ; )) They were so fun to work with (of course) and have perfect looks. If it wasn't for these two my business wouldn't be where it is today. And I would have a much smaller number of hilarious stories from college to get to tell my kids someday. ; )

It was tons of fun finding interesting places around Salt Lake City, and it was so fun try to pay back these two (three) that have done so much for me!

They wanted family pictures but Mason ended up sleeping through most of the session, but luckily we got this perfect shot right after he woke up! Isn't he SO CUTE?!?!

I'M THIS FAMILY'S BIGGEST FAN

Between a long trip to Utah, my daughter getting a flu/double ear infection (it was horrible), and my husband being in the middle of surgery rotation I haven't been keeping up on my blogging! Here's a session I've been meaning to post. : )

I got to take pictures of my friends Carley, James, and Ellie before they moved from D.C. all the way to Seattle. I'm sooooo sad they left, but I'm so happy I got them in front of my camera before they left cuz they're so photogenic and fun. : ) Ellie and Carley, and my daughter and I are super close and used to have play dates all the time. I get so sad when we're getting ready in the morning and my daughter asks me, "We goin' to Ellie's house?" I really can't say enough nice things about them!

I'm going to start out with my favorite from the shoot!

Ellie has so many expressions...the pouty face on the left and then she's cracking up two seconds later on the right is sooo Ellie.
She even looks cute when she cries ; )

I got to photograph baby Sterling's four month session this week and he is the most perfect little guy you've ever seen. He's soooooo good for the camera.....actually, he's good for everything. He doesn't stop smiling and looking around to see what's going on. Here's some of my favorites...

MY GORGEOUS SISTERS

My sisters-in-law came to visit over President's Day and it was such a blast! We toured the city and ate a lot of good food. And they entertained my little girl non-stop and taught her lots of new games (the only con is now my daughter won't stop asking me to throw a blanket over my shoulders and play Superman with her ; )). We had a few minutes to take some headshots while we were walking around Georgetown and I had to share them because I'm just so dang proud of these gorgeous girls.

This wedding was soooooo beautiful!!! It was up in Annapolis at the Charter House and the groom is in the Army so he was in his uniform for the wedding. They also did all the Jewish wedding traditions, so the combo couldn't have been any better! The gorgeous couple, the details, and the fun all made for such amazing photos. This was a wedding I shot with LCA Videomakers and is one I will never forget!
I looooove detail on wedding dresses!

The lace on the bouquet was from the mother of the bride's wedding gown....how beautiful!

Can you see how her earring caught her movement in the photo? My fav part of the image ; )

I love how her veil looks on her shoulders in that light....definitely my favorite images of the day!!!

MY DIGITAL WORKFLOW

I get questions about my digital workflow a lot so I thought I would post it for everyone on my blog! If you have any questions or comments then let me know! You can always email me at andrea@andreamariephoto.com (you can also just leave them in the comments section).

1. I shoot primarily in RAW, although I don't mind shooting in JPEG. But if you can shoot in RAW then go for it! I shoot in auto WB and on manual exposure.

2. I download all my photos into Adobe Lightroom and it automatically backs up my photos onto my external hard drive (as well as the original copy on my computer's hard drive). While Lightroom imports my pictures it puts on my copyright information and key words for my photo database. I organize the photos by capture time and rename them (I don't have to do this step if I used only 1 mem card). I make a DVD backup as my third backup of the pictures. And everyday I backup my Lightroom catalog onto my external HD daily and then back them up to DVD periodically.

3. I sort through all the photos and take out the definite "no's" and flag my super favorites.

4. I do the majority of my editing in Lightroom (the most important editing software to have!!). I set my WB, tone, exposure, and adjust curves where needed. If I add a vignette it's done in Lightroom at this time. After I edit a picture I then auto sync all the photos taken on that exposure and in the same lighting conditions.

5. After doing all my initial editing and batch syncing then I sort for all my super favorites and close ups and pull them into Photoshop where I add special effects and retouching. I also love using the liquify filter. For all my fancy colors I use the TRA Actions. And I love their Pro-Retouch action in their 1st set for smoothing out skin.

6. When I export my final images out of Lightroom I have a Photoshop droplet that sharpens all the photos for my clients' disc. When I am preparing the file for printing then I resize in Photoshop and sharpen after resizing.

If you don't have Lightroom then go get it! It will revolutionize your life! : )

I was absolutely THRIIIILLED when Katie asked me to take her headshots for her new D.C. dog walking guide book (The Dog Lover's Companion to Washington, D.C.). The first thought that popped into my head when she asked me was, "I hope she lets me take super model pictures after were done with the book shots!" Well, I talked her into it and I LOOOOOOOVE what we came up with. I only had about 30 minutes with her alone (without her darling pup Denali), but, holy cow...we came away with beautiful portraits! And Denali was so fun to work with too, all my kid session toys were perfect for getting her attention for all her pictures with Katie. ; )

I also have to say that Katie is so easy going...we had a last minute schedule change because the forecast changed to have rain the morning of her session. So I called her an hour before I had a slot available and she just said, "Sure, let's do it now," and didn't even care that she had about 15 minutes to get ready for her session! (I need about 3 hours to get ready for my close-ups....Katie rocks)

I loooooove this family. I really just want to hang out with them all the time because they are so fun. The family, the setting, the clothes.... *sigh* sooooo perfect!!! Beware though, if you have a sister you will be tearing up by the end of the post....these little sisters are so sweet to each other and we got the most beautiful pictures of them together. And they are SO GORGEOUS, I have no idea how they haven't been recruited to be Gymboree models yet.

I got to shoot Melissa & TJ's engagement session during the peak fall colors! It was SOOO perfect matching this beautiful couple with such a beautiful backdrop! I first met Melissa at her nephew's session (here's the link). I was SO excited to work with her family again because they have got to be the sweetest people I've ever met.

Her and TJ have so much chemistry and are so fun together. We all just laughed through the whole session. I am soooo excited to shoot their wedding in the summer!

MY FIRST CELEBRITY PHOTO SESSION

Ok...I'm exaggerating a little....I did a beautiful fall family portrait session of Erin, Phil, Olivia, and Sam. But doesn't Phil look JUST like Ferris Buehlar?!

This little family is the cutest and sweetest bunch ever. And Erin and Phil are the most fun and relaxed parents in the world!! They just laughed and smiled at every silly thing their kids did throughout the session. The ridiculously high level of beauty in their family, their hilarious kids, and their relaxed attitudes made for such a perfect session.

Little baby Sterling is soooooo cute!!! He was about two weeks old when we took these pictures and he is so tiny and sleepy! He pulled the cutest little poses and expressions throughout the whole session....I swear he knew I was there taking pictures. Sterling's parents were just glowing with pride and excitement throughout this session, I LOVE the pictures of all of them together! And Sterling's mom makes having a baby look so easy and glamorous...isn't she gorgeous?!

Wow, what can I say about baby Reese?! I enjoyed this session so much!! Reese is the most beautiful little girl ever. And she is at the perfect picture taking age (constant smiles and doesn't walk yet). She was so silly and fun during our session. A lot of these smiles were thanks to her gorgeous mommy who resorted to the most hilarious stuff to get Reese smiling.

It was so hard for me to narrow down these pictures!! If you see Reese in the next Baby Gap ad don't be surprised...she is so adorable! And if you've forgotten her newborn session here's the link.

September and October were such a busy months for me (sessions AND we moved!) that I haven't had any time to post! I'll be catching up in the next few weeks as my season comes to a close. It's getting pretty cold outside already!

This is another beautiful wedding I shot with LCA Videomakers. There were so many different countries represented in the wedding party and the wedding vendors that it was like United Nations! The bride was Bolivian and the groom was Peruvian, and they sure knew how to have fun and dance! This was both of their families' first traditional American wedding - so everyone was excited...and it all went perfectly.

I had such a fun afternoon working with this family. The whole time they just laughed with each other! They seemed more like a group of college friends then a family! It was really special since Freddy, one of the brothers, just got back from Fiji on a 2 year church mission! (Can you guess which one he is?...look for the island print) You could tell everyone was just so happy to be together again. We took all of these in Fred & Robyn's backyard - isn't it beautiful?!

A NIGERIAN WEDDING!

Here's some of my favorite images from my first Nigerian wedding! It was so beautiful!! There were hundreds of guests and they were all wearing traditional Nigerian dress. I was so inspired by all the colors and and this beautiful couple!

ADORABLE FAMILY!

I had such an AMAZING session with Ashlee and her family. They were so at ease the entire time and were just there to have fun! As a result, we captured beautiful images full of emotion from everyone. The kids were hilarious, and had the exact same facial expressions when I was trying too hard to get them to laugh....like,"Who are you, lady?!" I didn't need to try hard since they were popping smiles left and right, along with lots of other fun expressions. It did help that their dad was jumping around and doing hilarious stuff...although, I really don't know what he was doing since I was looking at the kids instead of him, but it sure sounded funny. ; ) This family is so gorgeous, inside and out. I am so lucky to have such amazing clients! I totally went overboard on this post!

I got to take pictures of beautiful Kamrie again! I LOVE this girl!!! (And her awesome parents) She is gorgeous and she is SO GOOD for the camera!! Is was so fun this time since she learned how to walk! Actually, it made it a little more action packed since she can now run away from me.....but we got some great walking/running shots. Oh, and the tu-tu shots are at the end... ; )

I was so excited when my sister-in-law Mischa asked me to take some engagement style pictures of her and my brother while I was in Utah. I told her I could, "As long as I can take your head shots too!!!" They have been married for about 4 years and are SO ADORABLE together and make each other laugh constantly....actually they make EVERYONE laugh constantly.

GRACIE & NESSA

I did a fun photo session while I was in Texas of little Gracie and Vanessa. Miss Vanessa is my daughter and this is her debut on this blog (she's in the green dress). I brought Vanessa with me so we could get some shots of the girls playing together (me & Gracie's mom are good friends from college).

I loved all the wild flower fields in Texas, so we decided to go there for the pictures. I figured it'd be a really easy location.....until we were ATTACKED by biting ants in the tall grass!!! The poor girls would break out into sobs during the session and we didn't know what was going on until we were attacked as well! You can still see all the little ant bite marks on my feet from this session! But the angry ant bites were TOOOOTTTALLLY worth it!

Vanessa was yelling in delight when she saw Gracie on my computer because she ADORES her!!

CALIFORNIA ENGAGEMENT!

I'm back from Texas and I loved my visit!! I got beautiful pictures in the wild flower fields (I have the angry ant bites to prove it)....but I will show you those pictures later....for now, here's Amy and Correy's engagement in San Francisco!!!!!!! There is no way for me to express how much fun this was! Amy and I have been close friends ever since we were three years old and moved in on the same street. She even flew out to be one of my bridesmaids in my wedding.

Since I live in D.C., meeting up for their engagement session was the first time for me to meet Correy! What a perfect couple!! They are photogenic and easy going in front of the camera. There are so many great shots from our session, especially because they don't know how to stop flirting. Amy is a really sentimental person, so it means so much for me to be a part of recording this romantic, fun, and hilarious side of her and Correy.

Amy & Correy, thanks a million times over for asking me to do your engagement pictures. My trip out there was amazing and my time with you guys was so awesome. I can't wait to show you the rest!

A note about my schedule: I've been traveling a lot and I will be traveling a lot until the end of June. Why all the travel?? My husband, Dan, is taking his medical school 2nd year boards next Saturday so I tried to cram all my trips into these few weeks while he's studying since I knew he'd be so busy he wouldn't notice I was gone! And then right after he finishes his exam we're taking time to visit family before he starts rounds! Guess where I am?! TEXAS! It's my first trip to Texas and I'm lovin' every minute of it! Did you know they have donut shops here like they have coffee shops in California?!

I can't wait to get back and post a couple of sessions for you. Until then, here's a sneak peak at the San Francisco engagement session that I did!

MEGHA & ANKIT

I had to find time during my vacation to show you guys these pictures of Megha & Ankit. I LOVE them!!! Megha & Ankit are photogenic and amazing. They were hilarious and made each other laugh the whole time. I really like to do sunrise sessions in D.C. since then you don't have to worry about parking, so here's another couple that were good sports about waking up at the crack of dawn. : ) Megha & Ankit are both super hotties and super smart, it was so fun to get to know them while we did this session!!

Just so everyone knows, my vacation has been great so far! There were the coolest people (and the cutest kids) sitting next to me on the plane that played with Vanessa the whole time! I am so lucky! But I definitely didn't pack well...I brought only flip-flops & t-shirts...and a blizzard hit Utah today. At least when I get to CA I will be have the appropriate attire!

I had such a hard time narrowing these pictures down...so sorry for the long post....but aren't they adorable?!

BABY ERIK!

I had the pleasure of working with baby Erik and his mommy, Stephanie, for a very fun baby session. Erik is such a hilarious little guy. The minute I walked in the door he was all smiles. He has the thickest hair you've ever seen - you'll see that Stephanie styles it adorably!! And Stephanie is gorgeous and so relaxed with him. She acted as if I wasn't even there and just laughed and played with her little boy; she is just glowing in all their pictures together.

While I was working on her pics I was so excited that she'd be able to show these to her husband who is serving in Afghanistan. He will be so proud of his beautiful wife and baby!

Reminder on my schedule: I am going to be in UT from Tuesday, April 29th to May 13th and CA from May 7th to May 11th. I will try to keep posting while I am gone!

BREEZY, THE SMILEY NEWBORN

So about a year ago my friend Vanessa told me, "I hope I have another baby before I move away from D.C. so you can take our pictures." What a nice compliment!! And guess what?! She had a baby (little Breezy) before she moved (next month)! I was so honored to get to finally take pictures for her!

Baby Breezy popped the most smiles I've ever seen out of a newborn. And Vanessa is one of the most easy going moms I've ever met. I hardly remember her being pregnant for more than a week (because she was so small and never complained), then she had a c-section, and then she was back on her feet within hours. Hopefully by my 3rd child I'll be as cool as her!! Here's some of our favorites from the session.

And Vanessa, we will miss you and your amazing cheese enchiladas SO MUCH!!

LINDSEY & JUSTIN

I know you guys have been eager to see these cherry blossom pictures....so, tadaa!! Here's Lindsey and Justin at the cherry blossoms downtown. They are the most adorable couple. They were so comfortable and awesome in front of the camera. We all completely underestimated how cold it would be at this sunrise session - it was FREEZING! (me and Lindsey were in sandals...) We had a blast, and the light was so beautiful....so it was worth it!

Also, a note about my schedule: I will be out of town in Utah visiting family from April 29th - May 13th. I will be taking appointments in Utah while I am there. I am also traveling to Bay Area, California to do engagement photos for a good friend of mine from May 7th - May 11th, and I will have time to take additional sessions if you're interested! NEWBORN BABY REESE!

I got to photograph the beautiful newborn baby girl Reese! She has the tiniest features and so much hair! I even have a picture of her lifting her head (she was only about 2 weeks old in these photos!) We really tired the poor girl out during the shoot, so we got lots of pictures of Reese's gorgeous mommy and her handsome daddy while they were soothing her. She was so good for the camera, we got so many beautiful pictures!

We wanted to get some sleeping pictures so I came while she was taking a nap...

Reese was starting to wake up from all the commotion - isn't that face cute?!

Kamrie is the prettiest little girl! She has the most beautiful long, curly eyelashes ever. She was so easy to photograph because she hardly ever stops smiling! It took me forever to try to narrow these down for a blog!

I had the great opportunity to take little Ethan's one year pictures. His big blue eyes and adorable expressions just make me melt! He was so hilarious during the session because if I tried too hard to make him smile he'd just stare at me.....but if I was quiet then he would entertain himself and start laughing! GINA & MATT'S WEDDING

Gina and Matt had the most beautiful wedding in D.C.! I was so excited for their wedding because we got to go downtown to take formal wedding party shots...AND, it was right before sunset - so it looked so beautiful! I had such a hard time narrowing down my favorites....but here are just a few!

I got to do Kristen's headshots on one of the only "warm"...and when I say warm I mean 40 degrees.... days in January. She is a beautiful actress and has this smile that just makes you happy! I loved how the pictures turned out.

SHAMEERA & BURKE'S WEDDING

This was one of my favorite weddings from last season. Shameera and Burke were married in downtown D.C. in an amazing Catholic church, and their reception was in the Sangam Restaurant - my and Dan's favorite Indian restaurant in Arlington! Here's a few of my favorites...it was soooo hard to narrow down.
